The IRIX 6.5 Applications CD, November 1999 is a companion to IRIX 6.5.6. This CD contains the IRIX Desktop and various desktop applications. It replaces all previous IRIX 6.5 Applications CDs (June 1998, November 1998, February 1999, May 1999, and August 1999).

Application upgrades shipped with IRIX releases are either Full images or Overlays. Updates to Full images are found on the Applications CD whereas updated Overlays are found on the Overlays CD. To install the new versions of Overlay applications you must install IRIX 6.5.6.

Important Notes About the Products

• Internet Junction. Installing Internet Junction requires the Internet Junction CD, an Applications CD, and an Overlay CD. The Applications CD and Overlay CD must be from the same release. In addition because of dependency issues you must first install sgsearch.sw.sgsearch on the Applications CD and the Overlays CD before installing Internet Junction. Failure to do so will result in a confusing inst incompatability error.
• CosmoPlayer. If you want to use CosmoPlayer 1.1 to view VRML worlds, do not use Netscape 4.5. Netscape 4.07 works with CosmoPlayer 1.1; both Netscape 4.07 and CosmoPlayer 1.1 are shipped on the IRIX Applications 6.5, February 1999 CD. Netscape 4.5 or later requires CosmoPlayer 2.1, which was released with IRIX 6.5.4, 6.5.5, and 6.5.6.
• Netscape Communicator. Netscape Communicator Client 4.7 is part of the default distribution on this CD. Customers who only use the browser functionality (and not the email, newsgroups, etc.) may prefer to install the Netscape Navigator Client (netscape_lite) 4.7. From Software Manager, open /CDROM/dist/extras to install this product.
• Netscape FastTrack. Netscape's FastTrack Personal Server on this CD will upgrade and replace the original OutBox Webserver or previous versions of Netscape FastTrack server. Netscape Admin server is included in the Netscape FastTrack 3.03 product.Netscape Admin server is now included in the Netscape FastTrack 3.03 product. You will not need to select the Netscape Admin server for installation. Netscape FastTrack will work with OutBox, and needs no special configuration.

Release Notes

If you choose to read the release notes for products before installing new products, you can now view the release notes easily from Software Manager. From the desktop Toolchest choose System, then Software Manager. This will bring up the Software Manager window. Choose to Customize Installation but typing /CDROM/dist into the Available Software box. A list of products available for installation will come up. If the product name is highlighted (similar to an HTML link) then there are Release Notes available. Simply click on the link to bring up the Release Notes window.
